Family Support Group
In addition to our educational courses, we also offer a monthly support group for individuals with a family member with a mental illness. This is an opportunity to share, listen and learn through a mutually supportive audience of your peers in a safe and supportive environment. Again, this is provided free of charge.
The Family Support Group provides support, education, advocacy and information to family members and friends of those suffering with severe mental illness. Each person has an opportunity, if they wish, to share their current situation with the group. Since everyone attending has or is going through similar issues, everyone can offer understanding and comfort. Often group members are able to offer helpful ideas, suggestions and resources.
The Family Support Group meets on the first Tuesday of each month at the Butte County Department of Behavioral Health’s Administrative Division’s conference room. The address is 109 Parmac Road, Suite 1, Chico, CA 95926. The entrance is sort of on the back side of the building – it is on the side of the building that is closets to Rio Lindo – as you come up Parmac from Cohasset, it is the very last driveway for the office buildings before you hit the apartment complexes.
The meeting lasts for 90 minutes, from 6:30 to 8pm. The Family Support Group is run by an experienced Family to Family teacher and trained support group facilitator.
